Walk like an Egyptian 05.16.2012

We attended an amazing event this week hosted by the Robin Hood Foundation. The awe inspiring speeches helped to raise over 57 million in one night, how amazing!! All proceeds go directly to funding programs to find solutions to poverty in New York City and beyond – an amazing cause and if you are not aware of it please check it out.

Given the hefty price tag for admission (starting at $3k)  the performances were top notch. Neil Young, a surprise performer and legend, came on just as guests dug into grilled cheese (our favorite) and gazpacho. Then Rihanna kicked off the end of the evening with “Only Girl” and kept the crowd with “Run This Town” and “Live Your Life.”

Given the conservative audience it was amusing to see how Rihanna went tribal on stage, dressed as some sort of jungle warrior princess outfit that was not flattering for her body. With an Egyptian themed stage, she wore an elaborate outfit that was super short, we were not necessarily fans of but it got us excited about this summer and travel plans. Gold is the perfect neutral for the summer as it glows like the sun. Where are you all off to this summer??

How to wrap up that wrist 05.08.2012

One of our favorite events of the year is the Costume Gala as that is where everyone puts on their game face and tries to gives the WOW factor. It was definitely steamy on the red carpet last night in NYC as there was so much skin seductively peeking through dresses we had to calm down the boys. Our favorites of the night were some unusual suspects  - Solange Knowles and Emma Roberts – as we felt they perfectly accessorized themselves with the right amount of bling and we LOVED the color of their dresses too, mellow yellow! Whether it is a few diamond bracelets piled on together or one knockout bracelet you can not go wrong when you choose one hand to showcase the dazzlers. And we had to include Sofia just because we love her and she has been nailing her look flawlessly all year.

What was oh so wrong was Mrs. Jessica Parker who looked like she was handcuffed with the two cold bangles on each wrist, such a NO NO, she should know better. Can’t wait to see the hits and misses of next year.

And the winner IS….. 02.27.2012

The Necklace! It was all about the neck for us last night, some hits and certainly some misses but we loved bringing back attention to those sexy collar bones. Michelle Williams and Penelope Cruz nailed the looked and were sensational. We loved the graduated diamonds that delicately sparkled, a perfect accessory to their gown. Michelle even added a brooch to her dress which completed her look flawlessly.

Unfortunately there were some bad choices made by some big celeb stylists and Natalie Portman’s necklace looked like it was choking her, it was way too big for the red carpet and Cameron Diaz’s necklace was mismatched for her fashionable gown, she needed something more fresh and modern.

We always love anything Gwyneth does but she was a bit too underrated for our taste. She could have used some larger earrings to complete her chic white dress, her large cuff was an excellent choice but she went too light near her face, we needed to see some more sparkle.

Now the season is over and it is bitter sweet but the celebs certainly made some nice risks this year and overall we give it an A. Till next year!

Rocking The G’s 02.06.2012

First off congrats to the Giants, what a game! Ever wonder what those championship rings are worth and who makes them? Well that’s what was on our mind while watching the game so we did a little research. The NFL pays up to $5,000.00 per ring, with up to 150 rings per team. If the rings are over the $5,000 limit, the team owners must make up the difference. Recent rings have been appraised in excess of $20,000, with some valued at $45,000. but manufacturers keep this information confidential of course but past rings have sold at auction for some steep prices.  Up to 2004 all rings were made by Jostens, the same company your own class ring or sports ring might have come from – which we found interesting. There is no word on the street yet on who is making this years but we can’t wait to see what it will look like so stay tuned…

Who does not give a SAG? 01.31.2012

We are in the middle of award season and sometimes there are just too many to watch to keep up. We were busy having a girls night, catching up with our crew of best friends, nothing gets better than that. Now catching up on fashion, we loved the long drop earring everyone was rolling down the red carpet. Our top picks were those on Viola Davis, Natalie Portman and Emma Stone. From white diamonds, rose gold to a touch of color, we loved the versatility of these earrings that can be fancy for evening events and perfect for nights out on the town as well. Valentine’s Day is around the corner so make sure to add these to your wish list this year!

Check Out What’s Coming UR Way 01.26.2012

While the brights are hitting the stores as we speak we are already on the prowl for Fall, scoping out all the hot jewels that will be heading your way towards the end of summer. Our BIG call out for Fall is a new twist to our favorite – the Tassel. Now it is all about color so we are obsessed with these tassels from India made with semi precious stones. Ivanka Trump may have made her own for $45k but we found some beauties for $500.

Moving on to Gold, which was up 9% last year btw, we are loving the classic open link bracelets. Nothing is more chic than an all gold bracelet paired with your masculine watch.

Stacking is still big but this year by way of thinner bracelets accented with diamonds. The Shambala pave bead bracelets are still around but we say they are “out” so lets all move on from those and focus on the new. Keep these ideas in mind and start making your wish list ladies :)

Golden Girls 01.16.2012

It was all about the Globes last night and the ladies certainly did not disappoint. The dresses were colorful and the jewels were glamorous! It was dazzling with diamonds last night, leaving the colors to shine on their gowns. The trend of the evening was all about the EARRINGS – the top two styles were dangly diamond or close to the ear with studs. For the fashion savvy ones, we loved Jessica Alba and Sofia Vergara’s dramatic look that perfectly complimented their dresses yet did not take over their heads with too much bling. Then on a more classic side we were obsessed with Charlize Theron’s entire look, she is simply perfection – her studs were the perfect accessory to all her sparkle. Angelina Jolie chose some HUGE Diamond Studs to go with her gown. We loved the studs idea but thought she could have sized down a little on the stones as they hung off her ears too much. And last year’s winner Natalie Portman was glowing and she paired beautiful studs with her dramatic red dress. The tip of the evening was bigger is not always better, make sure you accent your look with the right jewels that serve to compliment you and not over power you.

Go Big, Go Black 01.03.2012

Happy New Year! Wishing everyone lots of health and happiness in 2012.

While the year was kicked off with a BANG, we are a bit depressed after the Miami Heat’s loss last night. Of course while watching the game we were checking out who was rocking some jewels. Lucky for us we got some one on one time with Mr Lebron James pre game, lunching at a hotel and snapping up a quick pic with my son Brandon. He was dressed casual with his signature Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver (Ref 15703), it looks pretty hotttt on his wrist. Post game D Wade chatted it up and we could not keep our eyes off his Black diamond studs, they must be 5ct each, oh boy. If you want to get yourself a nice big pair of studs and white diamonds is out of the budget, don’t forget to check out BLACK diamonds as it is a much more affordable option and you do not have to sacrifice on beauty. Take a que from the man himself, it is pretty pimp if you do says Astarr.
